Project Development

The Project Development Branch, under the authority of the Central Valley Flood Protection Board (formerly Reclamation Board) and in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local agencies is involved in budgeting, planning, designing, acquisition of land, and constructing structural and nonstructural federal flood control projects in the Central Valley. Planning activities include environmental impact analysis, permitting, and mitigation planning. Project development also includes coordinating the Central Valley Flood Protection Board's program in the Department's Divisions of Flood Management and Engineering; and administering the assurances that the Central Valley Flood Protection Board has given to the Federal government relating to flood control in the Central Valley. Currently there are several projects that are under reevaluation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to ensure that certifications of levels of flood protection remain valid given new geotechnical and hydrologic information discovered subsequent to the original certification and significant flood events.
