Geodetic Survey

Background

The DRMS team members determined that the current topographic data for the Delta is incomplete and out of date. An up-to-date survey control dataset is required to support field surveying activities. This project was performed to complete the levee and island topography data gap.

Project Description

In December 2011, a survey was completed which re-observed a 125 station network in the Delta to the National Geodetic Survey standard. The Delta GPS control network was published by the National Geodetic Survey in the spatial reference database. Analysis of the 2011 survey data was compared to data from a 2002 Delta survey. No large changes in elevation were detected as a result of a comparison of the two surveys which were performed 8.5 years apart. It is important to note that the elevations are valid for the changes or lack of changes to these discrete points and are not necessarily an indicator of what is happening to the land surface elevations in the region. A final geodetic report compiling the documents pertaining to the reobservation and adjustment of the Delta height modernization network is available. Leveling surveys to tidal gage benchmarks located throughout the Delta and Suisun Marsh will be completed in 2012. Disclaimer of Liability
