Every year, the Department of Water Resources issues technical bulletins, reports, and other publications and media documenting the measurement, protection, use, and management of California's water resources. This DWR Publications Repository is a partial and growing list of the publications and other media produced and distributed by the Department.

In this list you find a variety of types of publications and other media ranging from print material, to audio and video files. If the publication or other media is available in electronic format, a link will point to the appropriate electronic file. In many cases, publications are only available in hardcopy and cannot be downloaded. A contact phone number and email will be provided for cases where an electronic download is not available.

Description: The Department published Bulletin 118, California's Ground Water to summarize available information from the Department of Water resources, United States Geological Survey and other agencies or individual groundwater basins to "…help those who must make ecisions affecting the protection, additional use, and management of the State's ground water resources". Bulletin 118-75 contained a summary of technical information for 248 of the 461 identified groundwater basins, subbasins and what were referred to as "areas of potential ground water storage" in California with maps showing their location and extent. The bulletin 118-75 basin boundary definition was based on geologic and hydrogeologic conditions, except where basins were defined by a court decision.

Description: Bulletin 118 was first published in 1975. This update is the compilation of a four-year effort . It includes the written report and supplemental material consisting of individual hydrogeologic descriptions, maps, and GIS compatible data files of each delineated groundwater basin in California. The written report is also available in hard copy. The basin descriptions and maps are available only on the website.

Description: Bulletin 170 is an annual online guide to the Department of Water Resources’ publications. Every year, the Department issues technical bulletins, reports, and other publications documenting the measurement, protection, use, and management of California’s water resources. Bulletin 170-98 includes summaries of all bulletins, district/division reports, newsletters, and brochures issued during 1998.

Description: This report summarizes the geologic and hydrogeologic data that was collected during drilling and operation of the Glenn-Colusa Irrigation District’s test-production well. The well was drilled and constructed in late 2005, and a constant-discharge aquifer performance test was performed in the spring of 2007. Data were collected from the test production well and observation wells within a 10 mile radius to determine hydrogeologic characteristics of the aquifer systems and to conduct a groundwater level impact analysis.

Description: In 1978, Senate Bill 1505 added §12924 to the California Water Code that stated: "The Department shall, in conjunction with other public agencies, conduct an investigation of the State's groundwater basins. The Department shall identify the State's groundwater basins on the basis of geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and consideration of political boundary lines whenever practical. The Department shall also investigate existing general patterns of groundwater pumping and groundwater recharge within such basins to the extent necessary to identify basins which are subject to critical conditions of overdraft." This mandate was carried out under the assumption that the Legislature directed the DWR to consider political boundary lines that would be appropriate for groundwater management purposes.

Description: This report summarizes the hydrogeology and well infrastructure of the Lower Mill Creek Watershed area and provides an overview of the potential for conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater resources in order to enhance water supply and benefit fisheries. This report also fulfills the reporting requirements of Standard Agreement Number 288745 between DWR and the Mill Creek Conservancy.
